What to do on Physics Day
Who should sponsors and judges contact for instruction on Physics Day?
You should contact Kristen Burns. You can find her in the Davis Pavilion.
What time do things happen on Physics Day?
Sponsors with displays to set up and those helping with registration should arrive at 8:00 am. The general parking entrance to Lagoon opens to the general public at about 8:30, although you should be able to have the attendant at the gate let you in earlier. The Physics Day Registration table outside the Main Gate will be open for sponsors and judges at 8:00. The main entrance gates at Lagoon and Physics Day registration in the Davis Pavilion open at about 9:15. The rides will be open from 9:30 to 5:00. Physics Day events are scheduled from 10:30 to 3:30. Here is the current Schedule of Events.
Where do I park?
Sponsors with displays may enter through the employee entrance on the north side of the park. All others need to park in the general parking lot.
Is there a parking fee?
There is a fee of $4 for those parking in the general lot.
How much does it cost to attend Physics Day as a sponsor or a judge?
Sponsors and judges receive a complementary Ride Passport for the day of the event, a free lunch pass, and a coupon redeemable for a FREE PHYSICS DAY T-SHIRT. Entry passes can be picked up at the registration table outside of Lagoon's Front Entrance Gates. Lunch passes and t-shirts can be picked up from Kristen Burns in the Davis Pavilion. Additional family members not helping with events can purchase a discount ticket at the Main Gate the day of the event. The cost to the students will be a reduced rate of $25.00 from the regular price of $41.95 plus tax. This fee provides admission to Lagoon with unlimited access to Lagoon Rides (Skycoaster, Top Eliminator, Catapult and Double Thunder Raceway are not included with a Ride Passport). Lagoon A Beach Waterpark will not be open on that day.
Where do I enter the park?
Judges and sponsors parking in the general lot should enter through the glass doors at Customer Service to the left of the Main Gates. Do not stand in the line with the students. Sponsors with displays may enter through the employee entrance on the north side of the park.
Where do I get passes for rides and lunch?
Kristen Burns will be giving you the passes for food and rides and a free t-shirt. You can find her in the Davis Pavilion.
Can I bring family members?
Yes. If they volunteer for half a day to help with Physics Day activities they will receive a complementary Ride Passport for the day of the event, a free lunch pass, and a coupon redeemable for a FREE PHYSICS DAY T-SHIRT. Entry passes can be picked up at the registration table outside of Lagoon's Front Entrance Gates. Lunch passes and t-shirts can be picked up from Kristen Burns in the Davis Pavilion. We must know how many volunteers are coming at least one week prior to Physics Day for planning purposes. Additional family members not helping with events can purchase a discount ticket at the Main Gate the day of the event. The cost to the students will be a reduced rate from the regular price (to be determined soon). This fee provides admission to Lagoon with unlimited access to Lagoon Rides (Skycoaster, Top Eliminator, Catapult and Double Thunder Raceway are not included with a Ride Passport). Lagoon A Beach Waterpark will not be open on that day.
Will Lagoon-A-Beach and the small kiddy rides be open on Physics Day?
No. Lagoon-a-Beach water park and the small kiddy rides will not be open on Physics Day.
How is the date for Physics Day selected?
Choosing the date for USU Physics Day at Lagoon is a delicate balancing act. Unfortunately, it is simply not possible to accommodate everyone, despite many good reasons. We have found that Fridays are by far the best day of the week to hold the event, especially for those schools that have a long distance to travel to Farmington. It is not possible to hold Physics Day in the Fall, as Lagoon is open to the general public on Fridays. In May, we must wait until after the Advanced Placement Exam schedule has been completed. This is usually satisfied on the third Friday in May. It is also ill advised to have Physics Day any earlier due to the likelihood of cold weather (recall the snow for Physics Day 1995!). Waiting until later in May begins to conflict with schools that complete their school years (particularly schools in Idaho). There are also conflicts with various end of term testing, sports schedules (for example, state track meets), or graduation exercises. Unfortunately, these vary from school to school, district to district, or state tot state. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience that these scheduling issues may cause you.
